My name is Gerhard König.

I am a sculptor currently living and working in Iceland, (yes, this crazy volcanic island in the North Atlantic). Before moving to Iceland i lived, studied and worked in Germany and Switzerland. 

My website contains all practical informations about me as an artist working with various mediums and an art-teacher for many years. 

I am enthusiastic about working with people, schools and institutions.

I offer you four possibilities:

to make a sculpture for you, specially designed for your private space, home, garden, village, school or workplace. 

to give a workshop in wood carving, stone carving,

   clay modelling, mosaic or mandala art.

                    to give workshops that have to do with water and artistic forms. 

 to make organic garden furniture, tables and benches for your garden or public places.

As a sculptor i work mainly with large tree trunks, in the last time with stones again. Examples of my work can be found in various places, outdoors and indoors, in Germany, Switzerland and Iceland. 

I´ve held numerous solo exhibitions in Germany, Iceland and Switzerland. 

Working with large tree trunks requires me to work outside.

My tallest sculptures were for example made in public spaces visible to all, in towns, forests, gardens, nature and by the ocean. One could indeed call me an open air sculptor.

To create  sculptures commissioned for public or private spaces is one thing.

To work directly with people in my art-workshops is another thing.

Both aspects appeal to me.

In my view water projects and outdoor sculptures belong to the land art category.  I have a special affinity with water and I am truly in "my element" when I work with water as an artist. Everybody is familiar with water but at the same time water contains many secrets that might elude them.

Water is life.  

     4. Tables and Benches - Organic Design

 These last years I have been designing and making tables and benches in the organic style. I mainly use local, rough wood,  preferably when the wood is newly felled. Every single piece of my organic furniture is made out of such wood without any metal screws or nails. I made all benches and tables between the years 2011 and 2015. (In Asgardur workshops Alafoss)
